FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Below you will find some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for your convenience:
How do I get my licence in Ontario?
Each province in Canada has different requirements for getting your licence. For Ontario’s requirements, please check-out this resource.
In general, new drivers who are looking to get their driving licence will be required to complete all the steps at their Ministry-run Transportation office. In Ontario, it is the MTO/DriveTest Centers.
What is the benefit of taking a Beginner Driver Education course?
- You will be able to take the G2 road test in 8 months instead of 12 months.
- You will learn the driving core values and excel among your peers.
- You could be eligible for an insurance discount (check with your vehicle insurance company for further information).
- We are an approved school by the Ministry of Transportation in Ontario.
Can I start the course prior to having my G1 or if I have not turned 16?
You can start our course prior to having your G1, however, you will still only have 1 year to complete the course. You can also start the course when you are 15 years old, however since you need to complete all the required components of the course within the year we recommend that you start no earlier than 3 months prior to your 16th birthday so you have enough time to complete all the required components of the course.
What happens if I miss a day of my in-class course?
If you attend classes 1 & 2 and you miss class 3 you cannot do class 4 until you complete class 3. You must complete the course in a consecutive order in order to meet the Ministry’s requirements.
When can I begin my in-car lessons?
After you have completed the first two components of the course (the in-class and Homelink) you can contact Drivewise Newmarket’s main office to schedule your in-vehicle lessons.
I reside outside of Newmarket, where will my in-car lessons be conducted?
In-vehicle lessons will be conducted in Newmarket, ON, as the city of Newmarket provides students with the opportunity to experience several traffic laws and drive in different traffic zones. This will better prepare students for the driving test and for future safe driving in any city in Canada.
Students that live outside our pick-up zone ( Newmarket or Aurora) will be picked-up and dropped-off at a predetermined location closer to Newmarket.
How can DriveWise Newmarket help me?
- Our instructors are highly trained, they are passionate about safe driving, and they care about student learning and experience.
- We offer interactive learning experiences. Students are engaged in the classroom through the use of games and state-of-the-art quiz systems. Students are also challenged through case studies, classroom discussions, and exciting learning activities.
- We offer a simulation lab, which allows students to learn about safe driving in a low risk environment, with the instructor playing the role of a coach. Students are also able to learn from their mistakes through scenario replays.
- We offer online learning (Homelink), which offers independent learning that reinforces materials learned in the classroom.
- Most importantly, we offer one-on-one in-vehicle sessions with a qualified instructor. Each session is specifically tailored to the student’s needs and skills.
What is the benefit of the simulator?
Simulation labs are a very effective and powerful method of developing safe driving skills. In a simulated environment, the students are exposed to different driving situations. The safe environment of the simulator allows students to experience situations that would be dangerous to experience in a real vehicle.
Furthermore, the safe and low risk environment of the simulation lab allows instructors to sit back and observe how students recognize danger, be proactive, and recover. This provides the students with the opportunity to be coached by the instructor instead of being monitored for everyone’s safety. With the scenario replays and discussions students see and explore the cause and effect of their driving decisions.
